Streamlining my business

Why I’m Rethinking Success and Streamlining My Business

04 November 2024

I wanted to share some honest reflections with you today. Over the past year, I’ve been rethinking what success truly means to me and how I will be streamlining my business – and my life – moving forward.

Getting Caught Up in the Success Hype

A few years ago, I realised I’d been swept up in chasing what other people considered “success” – things like reaching seven figures or being part of exclusive experiences like trips to Necker Island. But once I achieved these milestones, they didn’t feel meaningful to me. They didn’t align with my true values or the vision I had when I first set out in business.

Back then, I made a choice to step off that “success train.” I decided only to pursue goals that felt fulfilling and purposeful. This approach worked well, but recently, I’ve felt that old cycle of striving creeping back in – the push for “more” that’s so common in the business world.

The Pressure to Grow – But Why?

Business culture often pushes us to keep growing: from six figures to seven figures to eight figures, always moving toward the next big financial milestone. But recently, I found myself asking why. Why am I chasing these goals? Is it for a sense of status, or is there a more meaningful reason behind them?

I’ve come to realise that, for me, success isn’t about hitting arbitrary financial targets or maintaining a flashy lifestyle. I don’t have a need for luxury cars or bragging rights; instead, I want a business that feels right and work that aligns with my values. Success, to me, should be about creating a life I love, not just aiming for bigger numbers.

A New Definition of Success

Since I started my business, I’ve focused on building quality relationships with my clients. I’ve always prioritised being approachable and real, rather than “looking successful” online. When I look at other leaders who distance themselves as their businesses grow, I’m reminded that my passion lies in staying close to the people I serve.

This clarity has helped me redefine what I want my business to stand for. Success, in my eyes, is about finding purpose, balance, and joy – not just financial gain. I want to work on what matters to me and support others in doing the same.

Streamlining My Life and Business

So, I’ve started simplifying everything, from my daily routines to my business offerings. It’s not about scaling down for its own sake but about creating more space for things that feel meaningful. I’ve realised that reaching the peak of my business doesn’t mean I have to keep growing for growth’s sake. Instead, I want to focus on inner peace, time with family, and making a positive impact.

You may have noticed some of the changes I’ve made already. Recently, I closed a highly successful group with over 20,000 members. It was thriving, but I no longer felt aligned with it. I also wrapped up a popular podcast that was in the top 0.5% worldwide. Even though it was going strong, I wanted to make space for other priorities.

Closing Down Successful Projects

The next big change is that I’m closing down “That Strategy Co.” In just over a year, it became one of the UK’s most successful training businesses, bringing in multiple six figures. But despite its success, it no longer aligns with my vision. I don’t want my time spread across too many projects. The reason I started this journey was to have more time for my family and clients, not to become busier.

My focus from now on will be quality over quantity. I’m here to support those who want to make meaningful, purpose-driven progress – not just chase arbitrary financial goals.
